Throughout the course of the year, all Cadets can be assigned demerits, which are given out for different levels of misconduct. You can work off your demerits by doing merit-work, as in assisting the battalion staff or helping around the office/classroom. The amount of meritsawarded will depend on the job and the time used to complete the job. If you pass a certain limit of demerits, you will be revoked of special privileges, as shown below. Merits and demerits can be assigned by anyone in senior leadership (Platoon leadership and above).
When leadership gives out merits or demerits, the Cadet will be informed of their actions in writing, and both cadets will have to sign the demerit/merit form (provided by the S-1). The paper will then be submitted in --------------------mailbox for approval, and is subject to review by the AI. Once reviewed, the cadet will then be notified of the status via chain of command. It will then be updated on the battalion website by the S-5. Merit and demerit status can be checked by clicking the button below.
All Cadets:
On probation, cadets will lose most JROTC privileges. This includes Military Ball and immediate suspension from JROTC teams.
If you have more than 150 demerits and do not work them off within 15 school days, you will be demoted and put on probation.
If a cadet does not keep their grades up (i.e. fail a class), the cadet may be subject to probation.
If you do not attend 3 or more scheduled mandatory battalion events per marking period, and provide no excuse, you will be demoted.
Demerits will not be assigned if the cadet has a valid excuse.
Specific to Audit Cadets:
If you have more than 60 demerits, you will be demoted and put on probation.
If you do not work off those demerits within 15 school days, you will be subject to being dropped from the program.
Audit cadets are required to join a team, and failure to do so will result in being dropped from the JROTC program.

Merits
Given by Staff Approach a staff member after school and offer to help with any work they may need done. The work and amount of merits issued will vary depending on the staff member. This is an easy and helpful way to work off a large amount of demerits in a short period of time.
5 per hour-Community Service Events A cadet can choose to work off demerits instead of earning community service hours for any service opportunities throughout the year. This excludes mandatory events. You cannot use hours earned prior to when you received demerits. If you want to do this, service must be done with intentions to work off demerits. If you wish to do this, please let C/MAJ Lopez-Garcia know in advance. This can only be used to work off demerits. No merits will be earned if a cadet has zero demerits.
* These offenses can affect your grade in JROTC, as well as earn you demerits
